In the country of sacred memories. Bishop Arsen (Stadnitsky)

The wonderful book “In the Country of Holy Memories” is a scientific description of a trip to the Holy Land in the summer of 1900. The rector of the Moscow Theological Academy of Bishop Arseny (Stadnitsky), accompanied by professors and students of the MDA. The editor and compiler of the book is the bishop of Volokolamsk Arseny (Stadnitsky Avksenty Georgievich; 1862 - 1936), in the future - the Metropolitan, an outstanding figure of the Russian Orthodox Church, one of the three selected candidates for the patriarchal throne when restoring the patriarchate at the celestial of 1917 - 1918. The 1900 expedition included a member - correspondent of the Russian Academy of Sciences N.F. Kaperev, author of well -known works on the history of Russian - Jerusalem ties, and professor - biblicalist V. N. Musmitsyn. The book was written by students who later became famous figures in different fields, this is N.E. Rumyantsev, M.V. Wojich - Khovichi, A. I. Nikolsky, as well as the future head of the RDM in Jerusalem Archim. Leonid (Sentsov). This is the first academic pilgrimage in Russian science (subsequently the example of MDA will follow both Kazan and Kyiv), it became possible thanks to the comprehensive assistance of the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian society. The book is of undoubted interest for the historians of the Russian Church, diplomacy and the entire domestic culture of the turn of the 19th - XX centuries.
