Poetry of Gennady Alekseev, a bright representative of the St. Petersburg School of a Free Veredity, for a long time undeservedly remained on the periphery of reader attention. The collection “In the shadow of the obelisk” included poems and poems of different years, one way or another related to the theme of the city. It was the hometown, or rather Leningrad-Petersburg, who became for the poet a place of power, an inexhaustible source of life and creative energy. The poetic world of Alekseev, extremely integral and original, is penetrated through and through the spirit of St. Petersburg. The space of the city plays the most important role in it. A number of works are published for the first time.
