After the separation of the former British colony of British India in August 1947, a military conflict broke out between India and Pakistan. The reason is the dispute about belonging to Jammu and Kashmir, where the Muslim population prevailed, but the ruling elite consisted of Indians. Maharaja Kashmir Hari Singh decided to declare independence. On October 21, 1947, the invasion of Pakistani half -nuclear units in Kashmir began. Hari Singh turned to Delhi for help. India set the condition that Kashmir must join India in order to get help. Maharaja agreed, and the government of India recognized the attachment of the principality to India on October 27. Indian troops were sent to Kashmir.
in accordance with the UN resolution, a truce entered into force on January 1, 1949. On July 27, India and Pakistan signed an agreement on the ceasefire. Approximately 60% of Kashmir went under the control of India, 40% were under the control of Pakistan.
