In his book, Dmitry Orekhov talks about Russian olderness. What were they, the protruders, the miracle workers who expelled the demons, who gave the pilgrims paradoxical advice, who always remembered the death hour and knew about the day of their future death? The author of Pavel Lungin “Island” (2006), which caused ambiguous assessments, was prompted to explore this question of the author.
