The representation of Russians of the 19th century about the Holy Land was largely based on the pilgrimage notes of Abraham Sergeyevich Norov (1795 - 1869). The hero of the Battle of Borodino, a government official, Minister of Education, writer and traveler, one of the first researchers of the East, twice, in 1834 and 1861, made a trip to Palestine.
