Kalevala
For the first time in more than one and a half centuries, the first prose translation of Kalevala, prepared by the famous St. Petersburg publisher and writer Eduard Andreevich Granostrem in 1881, is returning to Russian readers. The basis of which were the ancient folk songs-runs, on significance and beauty are on a par with the Scandinavian "Edda", the German "Song of Nibelungs" and the Homeric "Iliad". Under the influence of this epic, dozens of masterpieces were created, such as “Silmarillion”, “Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” by John Tolkien, who, inventing the language of the elves, imitated the sound of the tunes “Kalevala”.
