The illustrator Gennady Spirin was born in Moscow. He received a classic art education at the school at the Academy of Arts and at the Moscow Institute. S. G. Stroganova. At different times, he became the owner of the five gold medals of the society of illustrators in New York, the “golden apple” on Biennal illustrations in Bratislava, the first prizes at international fairs in Bologna and Barcelona. Books with illustrations by Gennady Spirina were part of the ten best illustrated books of the year according to The New York Times. His works are stored in state, private and corporate collections, including the Museum of Arts in Milan (Italy), in the library of Princeton University (USA).
Spirin calls the Russian icon painter Andrei Rublev and Dutchman in art in art. Peter Bruegel. Perhaps thanks to them, Russian and European traditions are organically combined in the artist’s work, making his paintings clear and loved in the whole world. His illustrations for the works of Pushkin, Gogol, Chekhov, Pogorelsky and other classics of Russian literature find fans in different countries.
