Anatoly Novoslytsev, an expert on ancient languages, analyzed in the original Russian, Jewish, Arab, Persian, Latin, Armenian, Georgian, Syrian, Byzantine written sources, and thus almost all mention of Khazaria was collected in his book. At the same time, he with all the thoroughly approached the achievements of archeology, and as a result was a book that did not have an analogue in Russian -speaking literature. The scientist traced the history of the Khazar since their emergence and power, when they competed on equal terms with the strongest state of the region of the Arab caliphate, until the defeat of the Khazar Kaganate, in which the Old Russian state played a decisive role. The book pays special attention to the religion of the Khazars, information about the state system, cities, economics and trade of Khazaria.
