Richard III, one of the most popular plays by Shakespeare of all time, occupies a special place in his dramatic canon: preserving the integrity and unity of the fractal, it completes the “Yorx” tetralogy (the three -part chronicle about the war of roses) and serves as the denouement of the entire cycle of historical plays whose prologue is “King John”, and the epilogue “Henry VIII”. “Richard III” is the first among the Shakespearean works of Contra Tyrannos, according to the power of the tyrant -breasted element, equal to “Macbeta”. In no other play there is such a set of vivid historical and journalistic sources (“History of Richard III” by T. Mora, “Mirror for the rulers”, the chronicle of E. Hall and R. Kholinshed). Such a synthesis indicates the preserved influence of a medieval religious theater on the Elizabethan scene and is determined in Shakespeare's drama.

In this publication, a number of controversial issues were studied and hypotheses are proposed regarding the time of creating and setting up the play, the incident of the troupe of Lord String troupe And his mother, the problems of the throne of the Jesuits in Elizabethan England, who gave rise to relevant historical models for the characters of the play.
