Kites. Gary R.
Romain Gary is the only French writer awarded the Gonkurov Prize twice: for the first time, under the name of Gary for the novel “The Roots of Heaven” (1956), the second - under the pseudonym Emil Ajar for the book “All Life Ahead” (1975). After the “Azharov” epic - one of the most high -profile literary hoaxes of the twentieth century - when the audience and critics did not recognize in the texts of Ajara the handwriting of the famous prose writer, Gary released his last novel “Air Snakes” and soon committed suicide.
This is a novel about the Second World War, about occupation, about French resistance, but the main thing is about love. From the age of ten, the Norman boy Lyudo has been in love with his same age named Lila, belonging to the Higher Polish aristocracy. The difference in social position gives him a lot of torment and humiliation. Ludo is an orphan. It is brought up by an uncle, a rural postman that makes air snakes. These multi -colored paper figures, ships, flying fortresses soar into the sky, forcing the boy to believe that any earthly barriers are overcome. The war begins, and the matured Lido enters into the struggle for his love and for the liberation of France from the Nazis.
