Kurortnik. Gesse G.
German Hesse is known as a brilliant storyteller, a true intellectual and an observant psychologist, the unusual plots of whose novels amaze from the first page. But in this collection, the reader appears to be another Hesse - Hesse, analyzing not the actions of invented heroes, but his own life.
The famous "Kurortnik" is an autobiographical essay on the life of the resort in Baden and the customs of his regulars, where the writer has repeatedly come to rest and be treated. On a trip to Nuremberg, Hesse recalls his autumn journey from Locarno, simultaneously thinking about the profession of the artist and his main lesson in the summer months - painting. And in the “wandering”, for the first time published in Russian, he is also revealed as a poet: it was in these notes and poems that the transition of Hesse from the life of active to contemplative was outlined.
