Tokutomi Rock (1868 - 1927) - one of the most famous Japanese writers of the New Age. In his youth, he leads a violent intellectual life: he collaborates with newspapers and magazines, engaged in publishing, writes a lot. At the age of seventeen he accepts Christianity and even tries to preach, and in the mature years he travels to Jerusalem and visits Leo Tolstoy on the way back. This historical meeting will be crucial for the whole subsequent life of the writer: he will become a “Tolstoye” and will spend twelve years in the village.
“Kuroshivo” - the most famous Roman Rock Tokutomi - tells about the unique era of Japanese history. Twenty years have passed since the Meiji revolution died. Satsuma and Tyosu clans, the fierce enemies of the Tokugawa shogun dynasty, the descendants of those whom Ieyas defeated in 1600 in the battle of Sekigahar, finally took revenge. The shogunate is defeated, the authorities passed into the hands of the emperor, but the winners are ruleing Japan - greedy, insidious and vile temporary workers. But among the vanquished, there are still those who want to take revenge on the winners for humiliation and restore their honor and good name...
