XVIII century. USA. There is a war for independence. During one of the battles, Matthew de Clermont meets with Marcus McNil, a young army surgeon. A few years later, having met again with Marcus, dying of typhoid, Matthew offers him a chance to start a new life free of illness and almost immortal. Marcus grabs this chance and becomes a vampire. But the ancient traditions and numerous responsibilities on which the life of the family of de Clermont is being built are in a cruel contradiction with the ideals of freedom, equality and brotherhood, in which Marcus deeply believes.

XXI century. Paris. Fibi Taylor, a young employee of the Sotbis auction house, which Marcus fell in love, decides to become a vampire and is ready to start his journey into immortality. Although the modern version of the process of turning a person into a vampire at first seems completely simple, soon Phoebe and Marcus discover: the difficulties and dangers that are in wait for a person on this path have not changed at all since the 18th century.
