In 1907, the Archaeological Institute was opened in Moscow. Among his first listeners stood out an unusual student-an elderly man in the form of a major general. It was Nikander Alexandrovich Marx. Maximilian Voloshin, who knew him well, wrote that Marx decided to abruptly change his life of a professional hereditary military under the influence of the pacifist calls of Leo Tolstoy. Nikander Alexandrovich went to the writer in Yasnaya Polyana, talked with him for a long time and soon left military service. In 1910, shortly before his fiftieth anniversary, Marx graduated from an archaeological institute with a gold medal and began to give lectures at the Department of Paleography.

Nikandr Aleksandrovich was a multifaceted person. He was fascinated not only by historical research. When his wife Adelaide Valerievna suggested collecting and writing down all the legends of Crimea, he warmly took up this work. Crimea was his generic nest. There, not far from Kara-Dag, in Otuz, there was the house of his ancestors. The Legends of Crimea were first published in the newspaper “Morning of Russia” in 1912 and 1913. The first and second issues were released in separate publications in Moscow in 1912 and in 1913. The last, third, release of Crimea Legends was published in Odessa in 1917. Today, copies of these first editions are carefully stored in the Memorial Library of the M. A. Voloshin house-museum in Koktebel.

Illustrations for the first The release issues were fulfilled by Konstantin Konstantinovich Artsulov; They decorate this publication. Marx knew Artsulov well, it was no coincidence that he dedicated the first release of the Legends of Crimea to his mother - Zhanna Ivanovna. She was the daughter of Aivazovsky, in the Feodosia house of which Konstantin spent his childhood. From a young age, Konstantin Artsulov was fond of plannerism. In 1911, he received an international diploma of a pilot-aviator, became an instructor in the Sevastopol aero club and in his free time began to work on drawings for Marx's book “Legends of Crimea”. He was beautiful as a drawer - the genes of the famous grandfather Marinist and the education that Konstantin Konstantinovich received in the studio of the artist Konstantin Fedorovich Juon affected.

In the second half of the XX century. Illustration has become for Arteceulov the main occupation in life. In the future, for many years he will be the leading artist of the magazine “Technique-Youth”, will begin to cooperate with the magazines “For Defense”, “Wings of the Motherland”, “Young Technician” and “Model-designer” and will issue more than 50 books. In the history of domestic aviation, Artsulov will enter as a pioneer of Soviet planning and fearless AS, who taught the pilots to leave the “sedopora”.
