In 1936, in Greece, the king departs from power and a military dictatorship is established in the country. Two sisters, eight -year -old Melissa and ten -year -old Mirto, live on one of the Greek islands under the protection of a large prosperous family. Nicos, their senior cousin, tells the best stories about a leopard, whose scarecrow stands behind a glass window in a family living room. But suddenly adults become gloomy, speak of democracy and dictatorship, quarrel with each other. Nikos is forced to hide, and Mirto enters the paramilitary organization of Greek youth.
Alca Zei (1925-2020)-a Greek writer. She wrote her first and made it the famous novel “Leopard behind the glass” (1963), living in Moscow as a political refugee. This book has become for her a way to talk about her childhood experiences and experience of life when establishing a dictatorship.
