Isaac Ilyich Levitan (1860–1900) - an outstanding Russian artist, master of landscape. It is considered the creator of the “Landscaping of mood”, that is, an artist who will be a rennoductly extent to project his own feelings. In 1891 he joined the partnership of mobile art exhibitions. In 1898, Levitan was awarded the title of academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts.
The book included an almost complete body of the letters of Isaac Ilyich Levitan, as well as the chosen by his remembrance of his contemporaries. The artist was familiar and conducted correspondence with many prominent representatives of the culture of the line of centuries, which determined its appearance: A.P. Chekhov, V. D. Polenov, A. N. Benois, S.P. Diagilev. The publication is supplemented by the memories of the artists about Levitan, in which he appears as a simple sensitive person with his joys and experiences, a person who had the ability to represent the spiritual, universal.
