Letters. Pliny Ml.
A lot of information about the first century of our era reached us thanks to the letters of Pliny the Younger (c. 61–113/114). After the early death of his father, he was adopted by his uncle - Pliny the Elder, the creator of the famous “natural history”. The young man received an excellent education, which later allowed him to occupy significant positions in Rome and provinces. He practiced as a lawyer with three emperors - Domitian, Nerba and Trajan.
with the latter, he was in correspondence, as well as with his scientific contemporaries - Suetonius, Martial, Tacitus. Pliny the youngest himself grouped letters to books for publication, probably realizing the importance for the history of these evidence. So the curious reader today, almost two thousand years later, can learn from them about the first communities of Christians, about the eruption of Vesuvius in August 79, who cost Pliny the eldest, about the daily trifles of Roman life, about the structure of state power and much more. < /p>
