Without Ivan Nikolaevich Kramsky (1837-1887), masters of genre, historical and portrait painting, it is impossible to imagine the artistic culture of the second half of the 19th century. Being a successful student of the Academy of Arts, in 1863 he headed the so-called “riot 14”, in which students who later founded a partnership of mobile art exhibitions took part. Kramskoy, rightfully, became the ideological leader of the unification of the Wanderers.

This book includes I. N. Kramsky’s letters to the most close to him - wife Sofya Nikolaevna and friend Mikhail Borisovich Tulinov. Most of them relate to the period when Kramskoy worked on the painting of the dome of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. His letters allow you to understand the process of forming the personality of the artist, to comprehend the nature of a person with wide, versatile interests endowed with a pronounced vocation not only for creativity, but also for social activity. A beautiful family man, a loving husband, a lyricist and a romantic, author of works filled with the subtlest psychological moods, appears in the wife, who are imbued with mental warmth.
