Letters to the son. Chesterfield
Philip Dormmer Stenhop, 4th Count Chesterfield-English statesman and publicist. “Letters to his son” published after his death is a magnificent example of the epistolary prose of the 18th century. These letters were not intended for printing. Without legal children, Chesterfield wrote to his illegitimate son for many years - also Philip Stenhop (second). In them, Chesterfield gave his son useful practical advice for a successful high -society and state career. The publication of letters at first shocked contemporaries: their content seemed too frank to many, but later letters were repeatedly reprinted and became popular. They were highly appreciated by Voltaire as the best of all written about education.
