Leviathan
Thomas Hobbes is an English philosopher-materialist who questioned the divine origin of man, challenging medieval scholasticism. For his views, he was repeatedly persecuted by the clergy - after the publications of the Leviathan treatise, where the state priority over the Church was proved and it was likened to the biblical monster, acting as the earthly embodiment of the omnipotence of God, the philosopher was declared a “atheist”, and he was forced to hide in France. The new book of the “Fingers Philosophy” series includes not only “Leviathan”, the most famous composition of Hobbes, but also the treatise “On the body” - the detailed presentation of the thinker’s views on the essence of man, as well as the composition “Human Nature”, written in the conditions of acute political contradictions where Hobbes sets the goal of deriving from the general principles of cognition of human nature the practical rules, according to which people behave in society.
