I was a little over thirty when I was in The literal sense began to wake up, asking questions about his calling. My affairs went well, but what does it matter to the outside. I began to look for a more meaningful path. I did not want wealth or power, did not strive for victories or career, but began to understand that it was possible to live not my life. I was afraid of this and was not sure that the true calling lies inside me, I did not understand whether I could trust my feeling if I could reach this life. I woke up in the middle of the night and looked at the ceiling for hours.

Then I stumbled upon an old proverb: "Let life speak." She inspired me very much, and I thought that I understand her meaning: “Guide the highest values ​​and truth. Live in accordance with them always. ” At that time, my heroes were people who did this (Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Mahatma Gandhi, Dorothy Day), and the call for life for the sake of a great goal found a response in my soul.

So , I found the highest ideals that I could, and began to achieve them. I rarely wanted to admire the results, often they looked funny and quite awkward. And they were always fake, distorted my true “I”, in fact, as it happens when a person lives outside, and not from the inside. I just found a “noble” way to live not my life. I spent it on imitation instead of listening to my heart.

Today, thirty years later, the phrase “Let life speaks” means something else for me. Now the meaning reflects both the ambiguity of these words and the complexity of my own experience: “Before you say your life, what you intend to do with it, listen to what she wants to do with you. Before you say your life, what truths and values ​​you decide to correspond, let her tell you what truths you embody, what value you are representing. ”
