Light the candle. Binches M.
Irish writer and journalist Mave Bincchi (1940–2012) is well known not only in her homeland, but throughout the world. In addition to stories, Peru Binchi belongs to 16 novels, her books invariably became bestsellers and more than once received prestigious international awards. In the 1970s, Binchi published three stories collections, and quite successfully, but real glory came to her after the release of the first novel “Light a Candle” (1982).
The book tells the story of two friends, their gradual growing up against the backdrop of events taking place in the 1940-1950s on the British Isles, where, among other things, two very different worlds come across: urban England and Patriarchal Catholic Ireland. Elizabeth was only ten years when she had to leave her home. There was a war in Europe, London bombed, and the parents decided to send their daughter to a safer place - to a distant Irish town. The girl was sheltered by a large, large, bustling family, and Elizabeth’s life has completely changed. But the most important thing is that she had a close friend of Ashling. They managed to maintain friendship for many years, believing that their relationship would withstand any difficulties and trials.
