By the centenary of the birth of the famous master of Russian prose, Veniamin Kaverin (1902-89), a two-volume of his memoirs was published. The first book includes the autobiographical trilogy “Lighted Windows”, which tells about the beginning of the writer’s life path. The second volume is the book of memoirs “Epilogue”, written by the author without any hope of its publication. As Kaverin noted, this is “not just memories are a deeply personal book about the shadow side of our literature”, “On deformation of talent”, about the compromise with the authorities and the desire to confront this compromise. Memories are marked by extreme frankness, depth of introspection, subtle psychologism.
