Asian lilies are the most common, most unpretentious, most diverse in color of lilies. They differ in terms of flowering: the early grades of lily bloom in the second half of June, the middle ones - from the beginning to mid -July, the late - in the second half of July. Another distinguishing feature is that Asian lilies are virtually no smell. Asian lilies differ from other species in that they do not require the formation of the bush and pruning.

Place of landing

Lily can grow equally well both in the sunny area and in the partial shade. The site should be well -ventilated, but not blown by strong winds.

The soil requirements

The preparation of the site is carried out 2 weeks before planting bulbs. Before digging 1 sq. M, it is necessary to make humus and peat, half a liter of ash, 1 tbsp. spoon of urea and superphosphate. The soil is dug to a depth of 35-40 cm, level, slightly compacted, watered. In places where lilies grow, water should not stagnate. You can plant lilies in open ground in the spring (second half of May) or in the fall (until the end of September). For planting in the soil, it is necessary to make holes with a depth equal to the size of three bulbs at a distance of 25-35 cm from each other, pure sand is poured on the bottom. Bulbs are laid in holes, covered with garden soil, the soil is compacted.

Care

lilies care include weeds, watering, loosening, top dressing, and the fight against diseases and pests. Water lilies during flowering, supporting the soil in a moisted state. To avoid drying out and overheating, the soil is mulched with humus or peat with a layer of 5-6 cm. Lilies respond well to top dressing. The first top dressing is carried out in the spring after snow melting, scattering nitrogen fertilizers on the soil surface. During budding, the plants are watered with ammonium nitrate dissolved in water, I use phosphorus-potassium fertilizers in liquid form immediately before flowering, in the late summer, but no later than mid-August, lilies are fed phosphorus and potassium. It is extremely undesirable to grow lilies in one place for more than 3-4 years: the bulb grows, becomes loose, the plants become closely in the neighborhood. The height of the peduncle, the number of buds, is markedly reduced by 5 -6 years and that means that the bulb is exhausted, and this can lead to diseases and death of the plant. In the fall, when the aboveground part of the plant was dead, the stem is cut at a height of 15 cm from the soil surface, the nest is dug up entirely, the children are separated from the mother’s bulb and they are planted to grow up. The mother onion itself is transplanted to a new place.

in the fall, lilies are cut at an altitude of 10-15 cm from the soil level. For most varieties, the winter shelter is not required.

Asian lilies perfectly tolerate the winter without the construction of special shelters.
