Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin (1799-1837)-a classic of Russian literature, who laid the foundations of the Russian realistic direction, poet, prose writer and playwright. Gogol wrote: "Pushkin is an extraordinary phenomenon and, perhaps, the only phenomenon of the Russian spirit: this is a Russian person in its development, in which he may appear in two hundred years." “Small tragedies” are a cycle of small dramatic plays by Pushkin, written during the famous Boldin autumn in 1830. It includes a “stingy knight”, “Mozart and Salieri”, “Stone Guest” and “Feast during the Plague”. The main motive of the tragedies is human passions: for money in the “stingy knight”, to art in “Mozart and Salieri”, to his lover in “Stone Gost” and to the life itself in the “Feast during the plague”.
