Living and dead. Konstantin Simonov
The first book of the trilogy of Konstantin Simonov saw the light in 1960. The novel “Living and Dead” was a deafening success in the Soviet Union and was already filmed in 1964. The author of the novel was not only a talented writer, but also a military correspondent during the war years, because the book has no place for the fiction. The trilogy is included in the list of “100 books on the history, culture and literature of the peoples of the Russian Federation recommended by schoolchildren for independent reading.” The first part of the trilogy is written on the basis of front notes K.M. Simonova and in many ways echoes the author’s personal experience.
There are many images and characters in the novel, but there are only two main characters - political instructor Ivan Sintsov and brigade commander Fedor Serpilin. These heroes are the personification of the Soviet officer. Serpilin is a hero of the Civil War, a successful red commander who has passed through the millstone of repressions, but remained faithful to the Motherland. Sintsov is a young commander, already in the early days, encountered with military tribunals and the need to make excuses for being captured and loss of documents. Both heroes do not grumble at fate, bravely fight the enemy in the Moscow direction. According to Dmitry Bykov, the author of the novel himself was bred in the image of Ivan Sintsov.
The novel “Living and Dead” shows the author’s attitude to the war well, reveals his values, because he puts his thoughts in the words of the main characters, which so far. Pores seem correct. It is no accident that the novel “Living and Dead” is called the most human book about the war.
