Nick Hornby was born on April 17, 1957 in Redhil (County Surrey, Great Britain). He graduated from Cambridge University. He later taught English for foreign students, wrote reviews and articles for various newspapers and magazines, including Esquire, London Sunday Times and The Independent, as well as GQ, Elle, Time, Vogue "," Premiere "," Literary Review ". Hornby's first book was published in 1992 - it was a collection of critical essays about American writers. In the same 1992, his debut art book was published -“Football Furious”. The story was awarded by William Hill Prize as the best sports book of the year, and a little later converted into the play and filmed. In 1995, Nick Hornby’s novel “Hi -Fi” was released, and three years later - “My Boy” (1998). Both of them were soon also transferred to the screen, and the main roles in them played, respectively, John Kusak and Hugh Grant. In 1999, the writer was awarded the Award of E. M. Foster from the American Academy of Arts and literature. In 2001, the new Roman Hornby was published - “How to be Good”, in which the author explores modern morality, marriage and relationships of parents. Then Hornby published the book “31 Songs” (2003), where he talks about the 31st song most significant for him. Nick Hornby lives in North London, from where it is a stone's throw to the stadium of his favorite football team - Arsenal. The book is about reading, about how, when, why and what we read.
