Solomon Maimon went through a difficult path of searches before becoming one of the largest philosophers of his time. In his youth, he discovered the teachings of Maimonid, then studied Kabbalah, tried to join Hasidism. Before meeting with modern European philosophy, Maimon wrote a number of works in the spirit of traditional Jewish scholarship and gathered them in a collection of hedes of Shlomo (“desiled by Solomon”). One of the most interesting of them is the treatise of Ma'Ase Livnat Ha-Sappir (“Flooding of a transparent sapphire”), in which Maimon tries, on the one hand, to supplement the Kabbalistic knowledge of philosophy, and on the other-rationalistically comprehend Kabbalah.
< < P> In the series “The Heritage of Solomon Maimon”, this essay is published with the application of facsimiles of the manuscript itself and the article by Professor Tel Aviv University of Gideon Freudenantal “Creative Development of Solomon Maimon: From Kabbalah to Philosophical Rationalism”.| Characteristics | |
