A wonderful stylist, subtle psychologist, master of subtext, Anton Pavlovich Chekhov had a huge impact on the development of world literature. He was always interested in the most ordinary people in everyday affairs and worries, he talked about their life, dreams, hopes for the future without prophecy and moralizing, providing his readers with the right to independently draw conclusions. The stories and plays written in the last quarter of the 19th century still arouse interest around the world, and prose writers and playwrights admit that it was Chekhov who discovered the unprecedented possibilities of the art of the word. “Reading Chekhov, I laugh, rejoice, admire...
