The writer created his most famous novel “Master and Margarita” for eleven years, remaking and complementing the text almost until his death. However, it was supposed to go through almost thirty years before the work was published and became one of the greatest masterpieces of Russian prose of the 20th century.
The novel was repeatedly placed in the theaters of Russia and abroad and served as the basis for many films. In 1994, director Yuri Kara made the film of the same name, the fate of which was mystically connected with the novel and the “devilry” that was happening in it. After numerous difficulties throughout the creation of the film, a ready -made tape, never appearing at the box office, lay on the shelf for 16 years.
