The textbook was prepared by employees of the departments of microbiology, virology and immunology of the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov (Sechenov University) and Moscow State Medical and Dentistry University. A.I. Evdokimova.

The book consists of two parts. The first part (Chapter 1-10) discusses the issues of general microbiology and virology and the basics of immunology. Attention was paid to the problems of microbiota and immunology of the oral cavity, as well as modern methods of disinfecting the material used in practical dentistry. The second part of the textbook includes the course of private microbiology, set forth according to the epidemic principle based on the generality of transmission of the pathogen. Chapters 11-16 describes the properties of viral, bacterial, fungal infections and protozoan invasions, as well as pathogenesis, immune response, the basic principles of diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases caused. The 17th chapter is devoted to the pathogens of infectious processes in the oral cavity.

The textbook is written in accordance with the program of teaching the discipline “Medical microbiology” of the Federal State Educational Standard of the Third Generation in the specialty “Dentistry” and was intended for students of higher professional education institutions, students in the specialty 31. 05. 03 “Dentistry”.
