Anna Maria Busse Bereger challenges these traditional ideas formed by researchers of the German school of the early twentieth century, who approached medieval music as if it was no different from the scores of the 19th century.

Busse Berger's study shows that the distribution of written forms of musical text did not make the memorization of music unnecessary: ​​moreover, thanks to the methods of recording, the musicians were able to find new ways to fix the material directly in the memory.
