Metamorphoses. Ovid
“He had songs a marvelous gift and a voice, like the noise of waters”, so A.S. Pushkin wrote about the public of Ovid Nazona, the great poet of the “Golden Age” of Roman literature. The main work of Ovid “Metamorphosis”, written with the sophisticated symbol inherent in the poet, is a kind of mythological encyclopedia of classical antiquity. Compiled from individual stories about transformations (actually metamorphoses), it contains an infinite number of mythological characters, historical realities, heroism, passions, pathetics, fantasies, quirks, playfulness, witty moves, irony. Later, this is a richest collection of mythological plots, skillfully united in one book, has repeatedly become a source of inspiration for artists and poets, and therefore the “metamorphoses” of Ovid rightly relate to works from which the weighty part of world literature “grew”.
