During the war, Fred's parents were forced to hide it in different families, constantly changing shelter. Bear was always next to the boy and reminded him of his relatives, the house.

Fred Lessing and all his family members survived and after the end of the war left Holland. Today, Fred lives in America, in the state of Michigan.
