Missionary joys. Bishop Sergius (Tikhomirov)
Bishop Sergius (Tikhomirov; 1871-1945), subsequently Metropolitan Tokyo and Japanese, was the closest assistant to St. Nicholas Japanese, who saw a true missionary in his successor. In one of the letters, St. Nicholas wrote: “His Grace Sergius is more and more than an excellent missionary. In Japanese, he speaks so freely that he pronounces sermons to the Great Gentile meetings and he is perfectly understood and awarded with applause according to Japanese custom. ” The travel notes of Bishop Sergius will reveal the forgotten pages of Russian history and culture to the modern reader, the true exponent of which was this wonderful Russian hierarch and missionary. The publication of the book is timed to the 70th anniversary of the death of Bishop Sergius.
