In the history of Russian literature, Ivan Alekseevich Bunin (1870–1953) occupies a special place. Poet and prose writer, genuine master of words, the first Russian Nobel laureate. According to A. T. Twardowski, Bunin is “the last of the classics of Russian literature”, whose experience we must not forget, his work is an unsurpassed example of “the noble compression of Russian literary writing, clarity and high simplicity”.
