The textbook sets out the basic principles of consular activities of the modern Russian Federation as a successor to the USSR. A complete characteristic of the directions of consular activity, its geography is given. The content of consular functions and actions is revealed on the basis of regulatory legal documents having legislative nature, which were adopted in the period 1991–2020. The forms and instruments of consular protection of Russian citizens abroad are presented. Modern consular activities of the Russian Federation are considered in the context of the historical continuity of the consular service of Russia. The textbook is intended for diplomats working or preparing to work in consular foreign countries of the Russian Federation, as well as for university students studying in the specialty "International Relations".
