Before the revolution, Prokudin-Gorsky devoted a decade to expeditions and shootings. He visited the Urals, in the Volga region, traveled all over Central Russia. He took the last pictures in the Russian North. After a century, his black and white pictures brought us the images of both ordinary people and architectural monuments. In addition to closed and destroyed temples, he captured villages and cities flooded with the waters of new reservoirs. We will never see some of these monuments.
