Saigo (1118–1190) - one of the greatest Japanese poets. He was an idol of Matsuo Basyo and many other corphytraffs of versification. After his death, his name was overgrown with myths and legends, which, being collected and processed, compiled the text of Saigo-Monogatari (legends about Saigo, XIII century), which included in this book.
the poetic anthology presented here is also tank "Mountain hut. The most secret ”(Sankasintyusu) consists of 374 poems. In one of the manuscript copies of this anthology there is a small postscript, the meaning of which is as follows: once Saigo caught the eye of the collection of his poems “Mountain Hut” (Sankasyu), consisting of 1300 poems. Some of the verses seemed to him not entirely successful, so he decided to choose the best and make a new collection. So the poetic anthology of the tank “Mountain hut. The most secret ”.
The author of the translation, T. L. Sokolov-Delyusin, was awarded the highest award of Japan
“ National Treasure ”for the brilliant translation of the“ Tale of Genni ”.
