My lieutenant. Granin D.
Among the later works of Daniil Granin, the novel “My Lieutenant” occupies a special place. It tells the story of a soldier, one of those who was able to survive in the terrible tragedy of the Great Patriotic War. Looking back at the past, the narrator recalls himself in surprise, a certain lieutenant D., “fiercely young”, a dreamy officer. The motives of his actions are not always clear to the current “Lieutenant D?”, Alter Ego of the author. It was in order to once again comprehend his past and his country, Granin, who fought on the outskirts of Leningrad the first year of the war, and began this bitter story in which he, as it were, reveals a line from the blockade diary of another famous Leningradka - Olga Bergholz: “... The only thing to talk about is that war is a shame, dishonor of people..? ”
In 2012, the novel "My Lieutenant" was awarded the Literary Prize "Big Book".
The book also includes speech, made by Daniel Granin in the Bundestag on January 27, 2014.
