Zinaida Nikolaevna Gippius (1869–1945), an extravagant beauty of the Silver Age, is most often remembered with the famous husband - Dmitry Merezhkovsky. In many respects, they are really inseparable. The couple complemented, inspired and provoked each other in life and work. However, it would be a big mistake to perceive Hippius only as a muse in this union.

In the literary circles of Russia at the beginning of the 20th century, Zinaida Nikolaevna played a very important and independent role: she actively published prose, journalism, acted as a critic. She wrote poetry, by her own admission, “only when she could not help but write,” so they can be considered as a kind of poetic diary, capturing a lot of surviving, an extraordinary, bright woman, gifted poetess.
