Indian mythology is a huge layer of plots and images immortalized in the monuments of ancient literature and covering the millennia of history. The authors of this publication, like N. A. Kun with his “legends and myths of ancient Greece”, in an accessible form shifted the myths of ancient India. Their main sources were “Mahabharata”, “Ramayana”, Puranas and other texts.

The plots of the myths of ancient India partly echoes ancient mythology. There are legends about the creation of the world of Brahma and the war between the gods and the asuras because of the abduction of beautiful containers, and the stories about the adventures of Indra. At the same time, the theme of asceticism is dominated by the theme of cosmic power in Indian myths. Demons often resort to asceticism in the fight against the gods. Only the gods manage to defeat the insidious asuras and return their influence over all three worlds.
