Napoleon. Life and fate. Vikhrov A.N.
The book was based on the exhibition “Napoleon. Life and fate ”dedicated to the anniversary date - the 250th anniversary of the birth of Napoleon Bonaparte. It took place in Moscow and was organized on the basis of a private collection of Alexander Vikhrov, who is the owner of the most significant collection in Russia, reflecting Napoleon’s personality, moments of his life and accomplishment, victory and defeat, real events and myths. The publication includes the exhibition catalog: 280 exhibits - works of painting, graphics, sculptures, products of decorative and applied art, as well as a variety of rarities of the early 19th century, conveying the style and spirit of the Napoleonic era. In the second part of the book, Alexander Vikhrov talks about remarkable items from the exhibition. Against the background of artifacts, the emperor of the French appears a real person, a native of the lower classes and a hero out of time. Bonaparte’s direct speech and his contemporaries, hypotheses of scientists, little -known facts and documentary evidence, the history of the creation of works of art and things related to everyday life or with the embodiment of the folk legend, make a voluminous and vivid panorama of reflection of the myth of Napoleon, which continues to spread today.
