On parallel Earth, Neanderthals created a completely different civilization. Physicist Pontter Boddet accidentally gets from his universe to the Canadian Research Center. To his luck, a team of human scientists, including the Paleoanthropologist Mary Vogan, quickly identify and accept pontoers. The implant-companion helps to solve the language problem and many other minor inconveniences, which is impressed in every Neanderthal. However, he cannot eliminate intercultural differences, because there is much alien to the Ponter. He cannot even help his colleague Adecor Haldo, who remained in the world of Neanderthals and accused of killing a ponter.
