North and South. Gaskell E.
Elizabeth Gaskell is a famous British writer, who rushed on a par with the sisters of Bronte, William Tekkeerey and Charles Dickens. The latter praised Gaskell's texts about complex fate, moral searches and boundless love.
The main character, a native of Southern England, Margaret Hale, is forced to move to the Northern Gorodok, the Center for the Industrial Revolution. Margaret hates the new “owners of life”, and the owner of the cotton factory John Thornton becomes for her a real personification of evil. John uncontrollably entails Margaret, and she herself soon begins to feel sympathy for a vulgar jump. The heroes throughout the novel have to overcome many prejudices and wider to look at the world, without dividing it into black and white - to the north and south - to learn kindness and humanity.
