Vasily Vasilievich Britter (1863-1918) - one of the most famous painters of the late XIX - early XX centuries. He was generously gifted in various areas of fine art (engaged in painting and graphics), literature (wrote prose and poems), possessed a sharp mind, observation, desire for various achievements in artistic life (organized exhibitions, participated in the creation of new associations). In addition, he was a passionate traveler, which was reflected in his whole work, one of the main topics in which the North was. For the first time, Vasily Vasilievich went there in 1902 and for twelve years annually visited the places that he loved, armed with a sketch and a notebook.
The result of the various essays that was seen and experienced in northern wanderings, which shortly before his death was shortly before his death Vasily Vasilievich collected and united in the book "North: Essays on Russian reality." The book is a kind of waybill of the writer, allowing readers to find themselves together with the artist in those places in the Russian North, where he himself visited.
