Notes of a doctor. Veresaev V.
Vikenty Veresaev is a wonderful Russian writer, doctor and translator. Fame came to him after the publication of the “notes of the doctor”, which were published in 1901 and was unprecedented success among readers. They “gave me such a glory,” V. Veresaev recalled, “which I would never have without them and whom many writers never had, much more gifted”. The book caused hot disputes and a storm of indignation among a well -known part of critics, outraged by the frankness, with which the author tells about everything that the doctor is experiencing, and shows the wrong side of the profession, thereby undermining the trust in medicine. Only during the life of the writer, the “Notes” withstood fourteen reprints. And although a lot of time has passed since the publication and medicine has gone far ahead, the book is still reading with great interest, and many questions raised by the author have not lost their significance today.
