Notes of the abbot Feodosia. 2nd edition, supplemented. Comp. Nilus S.A.
“Notes of the abbot of Theodosius” is an autobiographical story of one of the pre -revolutionary inhabitants of the Optina desert, contemporary and a female great Optina elders Macarius and Ambrose. Brotherhood of the monastery at the rector of St. Moses in a spiritual sense was one of the best not only in Russia, but also in the entire Orthodox world, and in his memoirs, Father Theodosius with remarkable simplicity and immediacy conveys the atmosphere of that time and his impressions. The memoirs of Abbot Feodosia have been published by our publishing house several times in recent years on the basis of the book of S. A. Nilus, “The power of God and human weakness” (1908) with slight editing and comments.
In this publication, several letters of the elder Macarius and other ascetics (including Rev. Ambrose) to the novice of Theodore, the future abbot of Theodosius, are first printed in this publication. Most of this instructive correspondence was destroyed in the 19th century, but these letters miraculously preserved and were recently discovered by employees of the Optina Desert Publishing Department.
