Nureyev. His life. Solway D.
“Never look back, otherwise you will fall off the stairs,” Nureyev loved to say.
Rudolf Nureyev was able to rethink and improve his art as no other dancer was able to either before him or later. After escaping to the west, in just a few months he managed to change the perception of the audience of the classic ballet and, in fact, created a completely new ballet audience. Nureev not only returned the significance of men's dance and male parties in ballet performances, but also brought the sensual, sexual beginning in this art, which was long -associated with fragile, airy heroines and their ephemeral partners. Having sophisticated the globe, Nureyev became the most traveling dancer in history, the wandering preacher of ballet.
The book is debunked in many popular myths that accompany Nureev’s figure so far: for example, the author of the book Diana Solway convincingly proves that the flight of Rudolph From the USSR there was no pre -planned decision. To work on the biography, she went to Russia to collect information about the early periods of Nureev’s life, up to his emigration. She managed to get recently declassified documents, as well as a personal interview with his friends, relatives and even some competitors. Having objectively studied the materials, Diana Solway by grains recreates the real portrait of Nureyev and sheds light on the previously unknown facts of his biography.
