Vasily Petryev was stunned, shocked to the depths of his soul because he was opened in front of him on the very first day of the October coup. Following his brother, he rushes to the aid of his comrades - Socialist -Revolutionaries. But its determination is replaced by confusion at the sight of the strength and cohesion of the Bolsheviks, at the sight of how workers, soldiers, and Red Guards are together together. There can be no question of active participation in events. Vasily does not yet know where to look for a way out. He only knows only one thing: he cannot fight against the Bolsheviks.

Ivan Petryev is confident in his innocence, but on the first day of the revolutionary coup, he feels strangers among cadets, students and officers. He is striking in the cruelty with which they deal with the prisoners of the Red Guards. And the further, the sharper he feels the wrong way of his chosen road. He understands that he made an irreparable mistake.
